This lady was present at Mr. Montana's meetings in Pierre. I send my sympathies to the Iron Shield family. Mrs. Iron Shield had an excellent memory and was fascinating to talk to. At the first meeting with Mr. Montana she mentioned that Dr. Buttes had come to her house to see her and asked to see Mrs. Iron Shield's collection of family historical documents. Dr. Buttes asked to take the documents with her and return them once she made copies. At the meeting with Mr. Montana Mrs. Iron Shield said she never got her documents back and their application to MK Law was denied. I am not suggesting or accusing Dr. Buttes of anything and I hope an honest mistake was made. I have thought about this a lot and I just hope that this family will receive their property back.

Big Jon
let me first say that all human respect is laid at the feet of you, your family and Zona's family at this time of loss and grief. I can only say further, that someone who walked on Mother Earth for so long has left her footprints. The wise ones believe that when the earthly presence is slowly, or suddenly, taken, and transformed, into a blessed spirit, to pass from one of the visible plane, to that of the mostly unseen, yet always felt and forever present, serves as motivation for those that remain and survive to carry on the light of life in the earthly existence, physically, to follow her footprints to a better world, or to use her footprints to make a better world. Those that follow in the grief and reverence of the honoring of the loved ones who have passed that threshold, can only hope that we too, can see one day, the magic, the deep magic and beauty that must be there to be revealed to the travelers, such as your beloved aunt. We hope and pray for strength within your family that will carry her soul to its rightful place where she can be amongst those that are already there before, to help her find her position where she can most help those of us that still dwell here, and to assist when necessary in ways that we not yet know ourselves, because we cannot know that deep magic until we experience it ourselves when we each make the same journey. Life is precious. Every life is precious. I wanted to say some words from my true belief, to offer a brighter option for that day when you can clear the tears from your eyes and lessen the pain in your hearts at this time. I know you care dearly for the humankind that you so willingly help everyday. Your direction and the direction and information that you provide to so many in your endeavors to discover and learn the real truth of history, is respectful and admirable. Your Aunt's spirit would be proud to know that you are helping others to follow her footprints, and that you are creating your own to make the path to truth easier for those that follow you. Take care my friend, and know that there are so many of the good people who know you through your efforts to help the people, that her voice will blend with the voices of the others in the spiritual plane, to raise the volume and harmony of the voices that are trying to sing the real truth in the earthly plane, now, while we can.
Hang in there.
your friend

Many of us don't know the great Iron Shield Family history. Let me share a little of what I found in Through Dakota Eyes, pg. 266.
Wahacankamaza, or Iron Shield was a Mdewankanton. He and his family spent the winter of 1962-3 in the Dakota Camp at Fort Snelling. He was a scout at Lake Traverse is 1865 and in 1866 was awarded $150 for carrying the letter signed by Taopi and for caring for the white captives. After living at Santee, Ne., for some years, he returned to Minnesota in about 1887 and was living near Morton when he died in December 1907 at the age of 75; US Office Of Indian Affairs, Report, 1863, 433, 1866, 238; Chilson, "Dakota Indian Scout Roster" Obituary in possession of Alan R. Woolworth.
I pray that you are ok with my sharing this Big Jon. May peace be with your family. Sunshine
